On alternate Fridays, hear Senior Citizens Update and Pillars of Bathurst or Dads on the Air. Senior Citizens Update Host Maree Curtis brings you information, news, and interviews about support for senior citizens across the Central West. A fierce advocate for senior citizens, Maree investigates topics of interest for older people and those who care for them. Pillars of Bathurst Many Bathurstians will know of the Bathurst Pillars located on the river bank near the Ohkuma Japanese Garden. But do you know the origin of the pillars? In the 1990s, Bathurst City Council purchased the cast iron veranda posts from the historic Royal Hotel in William Street. These posts are now part of the Pillars of Bathurst project which was created as a cultural heritage memorial garden. The aim is to remember the contributions and achievements of the many people who were once important to the development of the Bathurst community but for whom there were no other memorials. In each program, host Brett Van Heekeren and historian Dr Robin McLachlan talk about an individual ‘pillar’, the history, the story and the relevance today. Dads on the Air A fascinating insight into mainstream society’s shifting attitudes towards fathers and fatherhood, the program features informative and entertaining conversations with a wide range of experts and interesting people. Dads on the Air also gives a voice to less represented groups in our community such as incarcerated dads, Indigenous dads and gay dads. From 2GCR on the Community Radio Network.
