The 80’s was a vibrant time for popular music worldwide, the influences of punk, post-punk,electronic, new wave, synth-pop and power-pop reverberated through the decade. Hybrid genres of music emerged creating one of the most influential periods in contemporary popular music. The emergence of the independent record industry fuelled this era of exploration.

If you love live and local music, we’re bringing it straight to your ears on 2MCE with a one night special featuring performances from Sounds Live 2025. Featuring Central West talent Klancie, EasyGoin’, Javier and The Wave, Liquid Culture, and The Safety of Life at Sea recorded at Charles Sturt University's Rafters Bar on the 19th of June. This event is proudly funded by the NSW Government through Sound NSW and supported by the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia.

If you're unable to read the newspapers due to a vision or print disability, or you know someone who is unable to access the newspapers, tune in weekdays 12pm to 1pm to hear articles read to you. Our friendly readers are volunteers from the local community and Charles Sturt University. Current readers include Chris, Miao, Sharon, Inez, Donald, Monica, Peter H, Ross, Graham P, Jane, Jim, Sarah, Ali, and Duck. Talking Newspaper readers Sarah, Duck, and Ali. The Talking Newspaper is one of the earliest radio reading programs, beginning in 1978. Hannah has been presenting on 2MCE since 2017 and arrives every Friday with co-hosts Liam and Faith, a long list of songs to play, and an infectious love of music. Each week Hannah chooses a song to singalong on air to share with her fans. Hannah often has special guests joining her in the studio, which has included local musicians Smith & Jones and Dave Webb.
