The featured album was CARRY ME HOME by MAVIS STAPLES & LEVON HELM (ANTI-records). Recorded in 2011 at one of Levon Helm’s series of ‘house’ concerts, ‘Midnight Rambles’, the year before his death. Mavis Staples delivers compelling interpretations of r&b, blues, gospel and social protest material before being joined by Helm for ‘The Weight’, perhaps best known from Martin Scorsese’s film The Last Waltz, in which the Staple Singers performed the song with The Band. A celebration of great music by two fine artists.
