“Masculinity Matters”: Talking about masculinities and violence with Michael Flood & Stephen Burrell

Conversations for a Brave New World is produced by the Gender Network (feminist, gender and queer research and practice) at CSU. We bring global, national and local issues about gender to the Central West. Each month, we share knowledge, scholarship and research about gender from the diverse perspectives of experts and scholars.

This episode is the second in the three-part series, Masculinity Matters. Donna is joined by Professor Michael Flood and Dr Stephen Burrell, two internationally recognised scholars on men, masculinities, and violence prevention. Together, they explore social constructions of masculinity. Drawing on their extensive research, the discussion considers how social constructions of masculinity, including media shape men’s lives, attitudes and behaviours.

This timely conversation highlights the need to transform masculinities as part of the broader struggle for gender justice. The episode focuses on men themselves, as well as the profound problem of men’s violence, both against women and against other men, in Australian society.
